wedding photography frequently asked questions

How would you categorize the style of your photography?

genuine, romantic, classic, connected, fun

Do you have any formal training?

Yes, I studied journalism with a concentration in photojournalism at Eastern Illinois University. I graduated in 2010, but I've been working in the photography industry since 2006.

Can we meet with you?

I would love to get to know you and hear all about your wedding.  I love my job; getting to be involved in such an exciting time in people's lives is the best!  I have a condo in downtown Evansville, and I’d love to have you over so we can chat!  If you’re far away, we can totally skype!

Do you have an assistant photographer shoot with you?

My top two wedding collections include a second shooter.

When will we see our photos?

Your images will be available for viewing 3-4 weeks following your wedding day.  A viewing party will be scheduled in my studio.  Feel free to invite family and friends along for this fun event!

Do you offer albums?

Absolutely! I design albums that tell the complete story of your wedding day.  You choose the images you would like to include, suggest design revisions and approve the final design.

Where can we see more of your portfolio?

All my most recent work is on facebook! Since that’s where my clients interact the most, that’s where I post sneak peeks. Check it out at https://www.facebook.com/alishasimsphotography

Do you edit all the photos we order?

Yes, for all images that go into your album and any other images that you order, I edit each image individually to make sure the color and lighting are true to my style.

What can’t we do with the digital files?

You can’t make significant changes to the images I give you.  You cannot sell or distribute the images.

Do you help us plan out the wedding day schedule?

Of course! In order to make sure the wedding day runs smoothly, I send you a timeline builder to fill out.  We discuss it and make sure there is an appropriate amount of time allotted time for all the shots you want.

Do you suggest a first look on the wedding day?

I love it when my couples choose to do a first look!  Although this isn’t the only option, this allows your day to be more relaxing and gives you more time to enjoy your family and friends at your awesome reception!

Do you travel for weddings/shoots?
What are your travel costs?

Yes, I do travel!  I love shooting in new locations.  The travel costs are added into the total collection cost.

How do we reserve our wedding date?

In order to reserve your date, I need your contract signed with a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your wedding day.

Do you require a shot list before the wedding?

No, my job is to photograph every detail I see at your wedding, and I personally feel a list takes away from the creative process.  I do, however, like to go over the list of family formals and any special details with you in advance. I love sharing a Pinterest board so that we are both on the same page about your vision!

What is your rate for overtime hours?

My overtime rate is $350/hour.

What should we wear to a photoshoot?

Pick a couple outfits you’re comfortable wearing! Complementary colors, solids, and simple patterns are all good. Things to avoid: bright white shirts (ivory and cream photograph much better) and exact matching outfits. Variety is good!
